Legislation to bring Pennsylvania out of the post-Prohibition era by finally moving the sale of wine and liquor into private hands has been introduced in Harrisburg. The bill is designed to modernize and privatize wholesale and retail sales of alcohol while reforming the tax structure, strengthening enforcement efforts and enhancing alcohol education programs. Taxpayers and lawmakers joined together for the annual Pennsylvania State Capitol Taxpayers Protest Tuesday in Harrisburg. Speaking at the event were representatives of more than 10 taxpayer groups who spoke in opposition to the budget plan put forth by the Rendell Administration to increase state spending by more than $1 billion and boost taxes to cover skyrocketing state deficits. Rep. Creighton Comments on Legislation to Crack Down on Illegal Immigration - 12/15/2009
A package of legislation designed to both strengthen and encourage enforcement of immigration laws has been introduced in Harrisburg. The National Security Begins at Home package would require employers to confirm the citizenship of potential employees, establish economic sanctions against “sanctuary” cities, and give State Police enforcement powers. A package of legislation designed to end the practice of compulsory unionism in Pennsylvania has been introduced in Harrisburg. The Pennsylvania Open Workforce Initiative would allow workers to choose whether or not they wish to join a union, and prevent the mandatory collection of union dues. Rep.
